Amazing Place “Gran Canaria”

Gran Canaria is one of the three most populated islands in the chain of islands off the coast of Morocco, called the Canary Islands. Gran Canaria originally meant “Big Island of Dogs” and is actually the second most populated island after Tenerife, Spain.

Originally settled by the tribe Canarri, the island was seized and conquered in 1483 by the King of Castile and founded the capital, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

The island is geographically located to the west and south of Tenerife Fuereventura and has a round shape with a diameter measuring about 50 km.

Gran Canaria population of 820,000 is divided into 21 districts which are interconnected by roads around the island and go in areas of mountainous terrain. Later in the 20th century, the island super built his first road surrounding the set of Las Palmas and then spread to the north coast, then to the airport. It has since been extended to the south coast to take account of the increased tourist traffic.

The island is served by an airport which offers flights to and from the continent and worldwide. There are also ports serving the maritime community of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Agaaete Puerto de La Luz and the port of Las Nieves.

In general, Gran Canaria has a range of different climates and landscapes and is often called “miniature continent”, which is due in part to this set of contrasting characteristics. The south of the island where tourists usually go like the weather is nice and hot, with the north of the island that is cooler. The east of the island is famous for its long beaches and flat with west coast known for its rocky landscape.

At the heart of the tourist region of the capital, Las Palmas, Playa de Las Canteras, which is famous for its attractions as the famous annual carnival. But it is also known for being the place where Christopher Columbus landed on the road to the Americas in 1492.

It is by far the largest beach of the existing city and is mainly used by the city of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria is mixed with tourists in high season. It measures 3,100 meters and is protected primarily by the currents of the Atlantic by a reef of rock that acts as a natural barrier known locally as “the bar where you can swim to shore.
